We managed to escape the irresistible gravitational pull of Santa María del Tule. Well. Sort of escape.

Our holiday from our trip hadn’t gone exactly to plan. But here we were, back in Mexico and ready to give the Yucatan another go. It might just be a mosquito infested swamp, but we knew there were still some hidden gems out there for us to discover. Including a grand monument to one of the most dramatic events in the history of our planet.
So how far can two overland monkeys with no maps get exploring the infamously labyrinthine roads of Mexico’s Copper Canyon region? It turns out that they can make it pretty far.
After a late night arrival on the Mexican mainland, we were slow to get started on the first day of the New Year. It took a quiet New Year’s Day in Los Mochis before we were ready to start thinking about the next stage in our journey.
Sure, we only had a few days left on our US Visa, but it would have been poor form to leave without visiting Yellowstone National Park. So we took another detour.
By this point we were clearly not strangers to the Interstate Highways of the USA. We wished we were, because, let’s face it, they make for some dull driving. But they are also the most efficient way to get from A to B when A and B are a long way from each other. That being said, there is only so much driving on the interstate you can do before you go clinically insane. So this blog post is the tale of the detours we took in a fruitless attempt to maintain our sanity as we drove from east to west […]
What is the shortest way from New York City to Tijuana? Well, aside from flying, it still probably isn’t via Canada. But that is way we went.
I suspect it is considered a crime to visit British Columbia or Alberta and not pay a visit to Jasper and Banff. Not wanting the Canadian Mounties to angrily chase us out of the country we made the detour to check out these two stunning but expensive highlights of Southwestern Canada.
